The attraction of iPads and laptops to thieves has been used as a factor to explain the growth in insurance claims following burglaries.
According to reports over the weekend the insurance industry is now having to pay out £415m to cover the claims of those who have been targeted by criminals with consumer electronic equipment, along with jewelry some of the main targets.
Figures obtained by the Sunday Telegraph indicate that three years of falling numbers of break-ins have been reversed with the number of claims going up significantly last year.
The trend is fueled by the recession and the advice being handed out by the insurance industry is to check personal security as well as ensuring that policies cover the latest computer products that might have been recently purchased.
